Go Easy on Me
An lgbt book for New Adults
How do you rebuild a life shaped by loss?
Eight years after a devastating accident left his father permanently disabled, Theo Branson is still carrying the weight of a decision no teenager should have been asked to make. Now in graduate school for mental health counseling, he hopes to find a way forward and focus solely on his education and building his career. After years of dedication to his caregiving responsibilities, he’s ready to live a life that’s his own.
But when it comes to romance—something Theo has sworn off entirely—he is urged by his best friend to open his heart to the idea of finding love in his new era of independence.
With this push, Theo meets Javier, a gentle music tutor with a quiet sadness, and Randall, an enigmatic Army veteran whose sudden arrival stirs something Theo can’t explain. As he navigates the growing pull between the two men, Theo’s home life begins to unravel—fractured by secrets, addiction, and another tragedy that threatens to undo everything.
Just when Theo thinks he’s lost his chance at love and healing, a revelation shifts the world beneath his feet—one that defies logic and opens the door to something both heartbreaking and miraculous.
An optimistic yet emotionally raw perspective of grief, Go Easy On Me is a spirited debut that explores resilience, connection, and the unseen ties that bind us once we let go and allow love to find us in the most unexpected forms.

How long did it take to write?
I started writing Go Easy on Me in January 2021. It took one year to write and two years to edit. Also, if you ever see me write “GEOM” – that’s short-hand for Go Easy on Me 🙂
What is the status of the book?
After several years of trying to decide if self-publishing was the direction I wanted to take with GEOM, I have made the decision. FINALLY. I will be publishing GEOM in the Fall 2025 because, although this book may not be for everyone, I have hope there is SOMEONE out there that will relate and will appreciate the story as much as I do.
What inspired you to write this story?
This book is and was my grief project. In 2019, I lost someone whom I was extremely close with. I needed to write a story that could help me express what I was feeling and allow me to process my own grief through fictional characters. This novel means so much to me, which is why I’m fighting to make it see the light of day.
Do you have a favorite character?
Yes! Theo Branson’s best friend, Lianna, was one of my FAVORITE characters to write in Go Easy on Me. She’s fun, sassy, flirty, and one of the most supportive, loving, and genuine people in Theo’s life. I dare you to not like Ms. Lianna Charles!
